Do you like testing your English?
Then try these CAE Practice Tests. The level is pretty challenging, but what fun is it doing a test that's too easy?
You can blog about the experience and discuss what these tests have taught you about your current level of English.
Go to flo-joe to try more tests at different levels.
(PET) Cambridge English: Preliminary
(FCE) Cambridge English: First
(CAE) Cambridge English: Advanced
(CPE) Cambridge English: Proficiency
The CAE Writing Class is also worth a closer look. Good exercises!

Common Errors in English Usage

Paul Brians' fantastic award-winning website by an English professor in Washington state  is THE place to go to learn the finer points of English, which, as we all know, is the easiest language on Earth. (or should I say, "on the Earth"? Or simply, "on earth"?)

He has short but very useful explanations of  usage questions like LOSE/LOOSE and many many more. Definatelydefinitlydefinetly ??? worth bookmarking!

Hanna Jin - and her humorous approach on life

Hanna is a former student of mine who has really taken to blogging in a big way.
Her fantastic blog  hannalikes.posterous.com  was recently featured at bloggers.com,
http://bloggers.com/blog/let-me-introduce-you-to-80885
and she now has readers all over the world!
Congratulations Hanna!  Keep up the great work!

Unfortunately, she will have to move to a new platform now that posterous is disappearing. So by all means have a look before April 30. 2013!!

Academic Phrasebank

Very useful site that will definitely help you the next time you are writing an academic paper in English by listing the phrases commonly used in academic writing.

For example, look at "Comparing and contrasting" for phrases used in this type of writing, such as

X is different from Y in a number of respects.

Oral societies tend to be more concerned with the present, whereas literate societies have a very definite awareness of the past.

Here are some other things you do when writing such texts:

Defining Terms
Giving Examples
Classifying and Listing
Explaining cause and effect
Comparing and contrasting
Writing about the past
Describing trends
Describing quantities
